Epic Fail

A couple of weeks ago, we decided to go somewhere up north for a day of devotion and prayer. So one sunday in June we went to the early service at church and we left right after, destination: Christopher Creek. We start driving and we do not have directions but somehow we get to the right area, now the problem is to find how to get to the creek. Long story short we find the creek, and we are walking along it to find a place where to sit and eat. We find this big rock in the creek so we decide to sit on it and eat. The creek looks gorgeous: Here is the funny thing...as soon as we sit on the rock it starts pouring...so the blanket that we brought to sit on, has now a different purpose:
Needless to say we spent more time driving than on the actual site.

Incredible story!

In 1986, Peter Davies was on holiday in Kenya after graduating fromNorthwestern University. On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Peter approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee, inspected the elephants foot, and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Peter worked the wood out with his knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments.. Peter stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away. Peter never forgot that elephant or the events of that day. Twenty years later, Peter was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Peter and his son Cameron were standing. The large bull elephant stared at Peter, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man. Remembering the encounter in 1986, Peter could not help wondering if this was the same elephant. Peter summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing, and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Peter legs and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly.
Probably wasn't the same elephant..

My first time at Sonic

So, here is a funny story....talk about cultural shock?? here is an example for you :)
Summer 2009, Arizona, freaking hot....I am hungry and for some reason I am carless, therefore I decide to hop the fence and walk to Sonic, which is about 7-8 minutes walking distance (12 minutes if you don't hop the fence). Keep in mind the only reason I went there was because I didn't feel like walking more than that in a hot summer day. I had never been at Sonic (America's Drive-In) before and I thought it was a normal fast food restaurant. I get there and I start looking for the door...I find one I open it and then I close it real quick because I realize it is the door to the kitchen. hmmm, I start walking around the building once...and I see no door....I walk twice and still see no door...but there are cars in line for the drive in, and they are all looking at me weird...go figure! At one point I decide that I am going to do it! I open the door, a guy turns around and asks me: "May I help you?". I simply answer: "Yes, can I have a cheesburger?". The dude's response is just as simple: "First time at Sonic (America's Drive-In) huh? Let me show you how it works"....Embrrassing enough....Why can't it work like any other fast food place on the globe???

World Cup Reflections: Final thoughts

Who would have guessed an all european final before quarter finals? Well, in my ESPN bracket prediction I guessed Spain-England as a final game...I haven't been too good with all my predictions so I am not going to predict who will win, but I will only say who I hope will win.

I hope Uruguay and Netherlands will win their games. That's it!

Regardless, I hope you all enjoyed this magnificent event and I can't wait for Brazil 2014!

See you there ;)

World Cup Reflections: Semi-finals

We have arrived at the semi-finals with a lot of drama, surprises and bad refereeing.
Tomorrow morning (my time) Uruguay will face the Netherlands in a match that could be historical for the both of them. Nobody has been able to score more than one goal to Uruguay so far, but we also have to remember that they did not face any strong team. Netherlands just beat Brasil, so they are probably very pumped, but they have to be careful not to underestimate Uruguay. I got right only two of the last four predictions, but I am pretty confident when I say that Netherlands will get the first ticket to the final game.
Wednesday, the surprising Germany will face Spain; I say surprising because I don't know how many people pictured Germany so incredibly strong this year. They are very hungry, after losing in the semi-finals four years ago in their homeland, so they want to win, and win big!
Spain on the other hand hasn't been that strong so far. David Villa has been scoring almost every goal, so the question is: if he happaned to have a bad day, who would score? Spain barely beat Paraguay (definitely not the strongest team), and struggled a little to beat Portugal and Chile.
If Germany had to score first it would be extrememly hard for Spain to come back.
My prediction is that Germany will face Netherlands in the final game!

Was Judas saved?

Not long ago I got into this interesting conversation with a family friend and somehow we ended on this topic: was Judas saved? This friend said he had done his research and had come to a conclusion but he wouldn't share it with me, saying that I should have done my own research on it.
Well the very next day I did... I started researching Bible verses on the topic and look up the original Greek words for some key passages and I also came to my conclusion...
Now I would like to know if you have an opinion about this topic and what it is...
Here are some questions to help you out:

-Does the Bible clearly say that he accepted Christ?
-Did he repent or did he just regret what he did?
-If he was saved, did he lose his salvation after what he did? or was he ever saved?

Please post a comment I am curious to hear everybody's opinion on this!

World Cup Reflections: Quarter final games

It appears to be a Europe-South America match for the quarter final games.

Uruguay-Ghana:
As much as I would like to see Ghana make the semi-finals, I also realize that Uruguay has better players and a better team. But I am ready for a good surprise! Go Black Stars!!

Netherlands-Brazil
If Netherlands can defend perfectly against the great Brazilian strikers and take advantage of their not perfect defense, then maybe they can put up a great game. Otherwise I think Brazil will prevail and make the semi-finals.

Argentina-Germany
Probably the best quarter final game. Germany has shown great soccer so far, but so has Argentina. I think the fact that Argentina has better players will make the difference at the end of the day.

Paraguay-Spain
It appears to be an easy walk for Spain to reach the semi-finals. we'll see if Paraguay will be able to do the miracle and leave the whole world speechless.

Canda Trip/Holsby Reunion/Wedding 2010

This past week me and my lady (Dr Shaffer as I like to call her), went to Canada to visit friends and to attend a good friend's wedding!
We flew to Saskatchewan (pretty much north of Montana) where for the whole week we were treated like super guests by Drew and his fam. (awesome peeps). During this trip we learned a lot of things about Canada and Saskatoon.

I came to the conclusion that Tim Horton's is better than Starbucks! Their french vanilla is heavenly!

With this said I am not boycotting Starbucks, in fact I had a venti iced chai tea yesterday, but I am just saying that Timmy's stuff is oh so good!

Mallorie on the other hand learned that if you need to poop, you have to lay on your left side and it speeds up the process...Just like this:

On a more serious note, it was great to see how our friendships didn't change even if we hadn't seen some of these people in two years. We picked up exactly from where we left.

Our friend Solveig got married To Ben (who seems a really nice guy btw) and we are all so happy for them, now that they start this new chapter together!
Hip Hip Hooray!
